Picture day

Kristin had 'picture day' today at her dance studio (on a Sunday.....in 100 degree weather...while the parents waited outside...........). The night before, Selina told her that she could put on makeup and curl her hair for the photos. So of course, this morning she wakes up bright and early, around 7 am eager to get her makeup done.

This was the first time she got eye shadow put on.

Got her first eye done. It's so funny how the smallest things can make a child so happy.

All done.

After the dance photo shoot, we pulled over for some shots out in this field. I don't know why, but I just love these yellow flowers, or weeds, not really sure what they are.

And took a few shots at home.

This is how shooting usually goes, with Kristin acting like a clown.

  3. Thanks Paul. There is absolutely no way I would want to photograph all those kids. Individually, on separate days, sure, but all on the same day?? No way. I have to give credit where credit is due.

  4. Thanks Mieng, I am not looking forward to the "dad, can I have a cell phone?" or "dad, can I borrow your credit card?"

  6. Wow Amy, thanks for reminding me about that picture. I still remember as if it were yesterday. I'll have to dig through my archives and see if I can find it again.

  7. Beautiful! All of 'em. Absolutely love the shot of her w/ the flowers/weeds.

My daughter, 3, doesn't seem to care much for dance or at least not the dance class she's in. She prefers "gymnastics" where they get to run around, tumble, etc. She may just be a little too young yet for dance.

Her recital is coming up, which should be interesting to say the least! Still need to photograph her in her outfit too.

  10. Thanks Jeremy. We started Kristin in ballet when she was 3 too. I think it really depends on the child, but she really enjoyed it.

    Thanks Annabelle.W : )

Artdeep, the first 4 were shot at home, the 5th one was outdoors with a speedlite/umbrella, and the last 2 were done at home.

I'd love to see the technical remarks on these pictures, but they're all private on Flickr :-(

  15. Hi Anonymous,

The first 4 images are natural light, shot with the 85 1.2.

#5 was shot with a Canon 580ex/shoot through umbrella camera right.

The last 2 images were shot with 3 lights, the main was a gridded beauty dish, and snooted Canon 580 on the left and right side.

    Hope that helps : )

Love the pictures! The flower/weed is actually mustard seed.... I love it when it blooms. The wineries here in Sonoma have them all over the vineyards.
