Tahoe

I can't remember the last time I've seen snow. Getting to show the kids and letting them play in it was such a great experience. Surprisingly the drive wasn't too bad. Took about 3 hours driving at a leisurely pace. I did have to stop a few times to soak in some of the scenery though.

The sky was such a gorgeous blue.

if a pine cone falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?

All bundled up.

Kayla was definitely having a good time.

The boots were awesome, kept her feet dry and warm. I can't say the same for myself. Reminder to self, never wear jeans to play in the snow.

  8. Hi Pascale,

It's so awesome how a simple thing like snow can be such great entertainment for them. I can't wait to bring them up again.

  9. After spending what seemed like hours of shoveling snow off my driveway, I come to your blog and read about people who actually take the time to drive to see snow. Life just isn't fair... Love your photos.

  12. Wow, I am just always in awe of your photos! What did you use for lighting on your girls in teh snow pics? Off camera flash or all natural??

I asked you a few weeks back about the 24-70. I bit the bullet and bought it-oh, I'm in love!

  13. Hi Melissa, you're gonna love the 24-70 : ) Such a versatile lens, not to mention super sharp.

I used off camera flash, some were with just a simple off camera shoe cord, and some were with a big studio strobe as seen here:

  15. Hi Dave, the images are shot in RAW and converted using Adobe Lightroom. I set the color balance to be a little 'cooler'.

    Hi Jason.

I've been following this blog lately and your pics are AMAZING! Certainly inspired me to want to create a similar create a photo album for my kids (when I have them later on ;)

Would want to know, did you use a polarizer in these shots? The sky is such a beautiful blue!

And the flare in Kayla's shot. Was it captured in camera or added in post-processing? If in camera, how did you keep the flare from veiling the whole shot?

Thanks for sharing your photos with the world

  18. HI Sam,

Thanks for the kind words : )

I did use a Circular Polarizer on the photos, not sure which one it was.

The flare in the photo is natural, using the 70-200 IS lens. The sun was just out of the frame. For some reason, the Canon lenses create more interesting flare than the Nikon lenses. I tend to get blobs of hazy light with various Nikon lenses, but Canon produces distinct patterns.

    Hope that helps : )
